My Windows 2000 Boot issues

After unplugging and replunging my computer in windows stopped booting and gave a blue screen for boot device not readable or something along those lines.

After hours of finagling and trying to reinstall only to get the same error even when the drive has been disconnected, I have discovered the BIOS defaults the drive controller to SATA instead of IDE, Windows 2000 NEEDS the IDE selected as the controller in order to function.

If you have the same issue I urge you to check your drive controller in BIOS/UEFI.

Another Problem I ran into was "ntldr is missing" on boot.

To fix this I used a DOS based boot management Utility and set my primary windows partition as the active boot partition.

This seems to have fixed the issue.

A new issue I have encountered is "can't login domain (domain here) not available"
This appears to be only be effected after doing a kernel update on the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (5.00.2195.6717.sp4) version.

I have yet to find a solution to this as it is preventing me from logging in, But from what I have read I need to try and get in and activate the "Allow Users to Login locally" option.

After several attempts, I have been unable to login to make these changes, I would recommend avoiding using the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (5.00.2195.6717.sp4) if you plan on updating the kernel, this error is very unusual. If you are able to find a solution to this please message it here for others with this same issue.


I will be reinstalling with the "Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (5.00.2195)" installation disk NOT the sp4 version.
