WHAT IS Stats ?
*******************************************
Stats is a small 32bit program for OS/2 3.x or 4.x
that will give you quicker and easier access to
the statistics for files, folders, and directory trees.

With Stats you no longer need to search through
popup notebook pages for file statistics such as
creation date, file size, etc. Stats can deliver it
with one menu selection from a popup for any file
system object.

Stats can also show you the complete number of bytes
used by all the files in a folder OR in the entire directory
tree for any folder.

Additionally, Stats can make statistics for a folder's
contents always visible in the titlebar of the open folder.
This makes it possible to always see the information you
need at a glance

Stats is small, fast, configurable, simple, and has
little impact on the system resources.

REQUIREMENTS
*******************************************
Stats requires OS/2 Warp 3.x or OS/2 Warp 4.x.

*******************************************
INSTALLATION
*******************************************
Run the installation STATINST.EXE by double clicking
on the icon and typing in a path where you want
the Stats files to be copied and registered to.

If you have already unzipped Stats into a directory
on you hard drive you can install it into that same
directory. Just type that path into the appropriate
entry field. Also, you can type in your Registration
code (if you have one) in the first entry field at this
time. (If you prefer, you can wait until after the
installation and enter it on the Settings page)

Then press the Install button.

If the path doesn't exist you will be prompted to
let the installation program create it for you. It
then copies the 3 files : STATS.DLL, STATSR.DLL,
and STATINST.EXE to the desired directory.

The installation program also registers the DLL's
with the system, creates 3 new object class
(stats, statsfile, statsdisk), adds an entry to the
OS2.INI file, adds the install path to your config.sys
(it creates a back up of your original config.sys)
and prompts you to reboot when it is finished.
After you reboot Stats will also create a
STATS.INI file in the directory you installed it
in.

After rebooting you can now right click on any empty
spot on the Desktop and select the Stats Settings menu
selection from the popup menu. The Stats Settings
menu item is only visible on the Desktop popup
menu.

STATSINST.EXE is really not needed in the directory
you installed the program into but you may want
to leave it there because the installation program
is ALSO the un-installation program.

Uninstalling Stats is simple, too. Run STATINST.EXE
and select Uninstall. Press Yes when prompted. The
uninstall deregisters the object classes, takes the
entry out of your OS2.INI file, takes the LIBPATH=
entry out of your config.sys for Stats, and
prompts you to reboot. After rebooting you, the
user, can then delete the files.

USING Stats & SETTINGS
*******************************************
After installing Stats and rebooting the program will
be functional. When you open any folder you will
see the folder statistics on the folders titlebar (these
can be customized) unless they are empty.

You will also notice that every folder and file will
have a menu item on their popup menu for Stats.
If a folder has any subfolders then it will have a
cascading menu with a sub menu choice to select
the tree stats or the folder stats. These popup stats
can NOT be customized except for choosing between
date/time format for file statistics.

Also, the popup menu for the Desktop, itself, will
have a cascading menu item with selections for:
1. Stats Settings - Settings page to customize or
   register the program
2. About Stats - Dialog box with current version
   number and contact information
3. Desktop folder stats - statistics for the Desktop
   folder
3. Desktop tree stats - statistics for the Desktop
   tree

   objects) in a folder

3. The total number of folders (sub folders) contained in
   the folder
4. The total number of ALL objects in the folder regardless
    of their type or class
5. The full real file system path for the folder (which may
or may NOT be the same as a folders title)
** All or any of the 5 stats added by this program to the
titlebar can be deselected on the settings page to not
     display if desired.

POPUP STATS for files (dialog box)

7. File last access date
8. File last access time
9. Buttons displaying the current standard attributes for the
file. These attributes can be toggled by pressing the
attribute button. However, be aware, that if you toggle the
Hidden attribute on a file to positive that you will no
longer be able to see the file unless you change the Include
settings in the folder that it was contained in.
** Format for the file date/time can be customized on the
    Stats Settings page.

POPUP STATS for folders or trees (dialog box)

The entry field displays the real path name
Popup stats for folders then displays the following :

2. Total number of files in the folder/tree
3. Total number of bytes in all the files of the folder/tree
** Selecting popup Tree stats for a directory tree that has a
huge amount of files and sub folders may take a little time.

selection on the Desktop popup menu after this program
is installed and the system has been rebooted once.
