2.0  Change History
-------------------

     2.1 Advanced System Management Device Driver version 1.24 to 1.25

          For xSeries server models 220, 232 and 342 running Windows NT,
          Windows 2000, Novell NetWare, or SCO UnixWare with the Remote
          Supervisor Adapter installed:

               A minor update was made to the IBM Advanced System Management
               device drivers to support a change in the firmware that runs
               the Remote Supervisor Adapter. These new drivers are also
               compatible with earlier versions of the Remote Supervisor
               Adapter.

     2.2 Advanced System Management Device Driver version 1.23 to 1.24

          For all xSeries and Netfinity server models running Windows 2000 with
          service processor hardware installed:

               Added a setup utility program for use in upgrading or installing
               the drivers. See the Windows 2000 installation topic in
               section 3 below.

          For xSeries 232 and 342 servers running NetWare without the
          Remote Supervisor Adapter, and for xSeries 300 servers running
          NetWare:

               The IBM Advanced System Management device driver for Novell
               NetWare now supports the Automatic Server Restart (ASR) feature
               on these servers. The driver automatically detects the ASR
               hardware so no additional installation steps are necessary from
               those listed in the NetWare installation topic in section 3
               below.

     2.3 Advanced System Management Device Driver version 1.22 to 1.23

          Added support for future IBM xSeries eServers.

     2.4 Advanced System Management Device Driver version 1.21 to 1.22

          For xSeries 330 servers running Windows 2000 with the Remote
          Supervisor Adapter:

               Fixed a bug that could cause Windows 2000 to crash.

          For xSeries 232 and 342 servers running Windows NT-4 without the
          Remote Supervisor Adapter, and for xSeries 300 servers running
          Windows NT-4:

               After driver installation, these servers need to be rebooted
               to start the ASR driver. See the note in the Windows NT-4
               installation topic in section 3 below.

          For xSeries 232 and 342 servers running Windows 2000 without the
          Remote Supervisor Adapter, and for xSeries 300 servers running
          Windows 2000:

               To enable the Automatic Server Restart feature a special
               asrsetup.exe routine needs to be executed. See the Windows
               2000 installation topic in section 3 below.

          For xSeries 220 servers running NetWare 5.1 with Support
          Pack 2, and the Remote Supervisor Adapter:

               A code bug that prevented the IBM Advanced System
               Management device driver for Novell NetWare from running
               properly, has been fixed.

          For xSeries 220 servers running Windows NT or Windows 2000
          with the Remote Supervisor Adapter:

               The Remote Supervisor Adapter can now perform a graceful
               shutdown of the host operating system without requiring
               a management application, such as IBM Director, or
               Netfinity Director running on the server.

     2.5 Advanced System Management Device Driver version 1.20 to 1.21

          For xSeries 220 servers running Windows 2000 with the Remote
          Supervisor Adapter:

               There are new driver installation and update instructions
               included within this README.TXT file.

          For xSeries 220 servers running NetWare:

               Changes have been made to the Automatic Server Restart
               (ASR) device driver to properly enable the ASR hardware
               circuit.

                 also finds another suitable driver then it will display a
                 message that begins "The wizard also found other drivers
                 that are suitable...", and will display the this option:

                 "_ Install one of the other drivers"

                 In that case check this option and click "Next". A list
                 of suitable drivers will appear. Select the highest version
                 number on the list. Selections that do not include a version
                 number are older than selections that do, and should not be
                 selected.

              R: Reopen the "Device Manager" by right clicking on the
                 "My Computer" icon on the desktop, selecting "Properties",
                 and then selecting "Device Manager".

              S: In the "System Devices" section, look for the "IBM Netfinity
                 Advanced ..." or the IBM Remote Supervisor ..." device and
                 repeat steps M though Q for that device.

              T: The system should then be restarted.

                installed in order for these drivers to work properly.

          NOTE: If you are installing on xSeries 232 and 342 servers without
                the Remote Supervisor Adapter, or on xSeries 300 servers, the
                machine will need to be rebooted after following either of the
                two installation methods below.

          There are 2 methods you can choose from when installing the Windows
          NT 4 System Management Drivers.

          1 The unattended method will install the drivers and accept
              default values for any screen prompts that would otherwise
              appear. The user will be prompted if an error occurs during
              installation.

              For an unattended installation of the drivers:
              * Open a Command prompt
              * If installing from a diskette, type:
                A:\NT\SETUP -q
              * If installing from a CD-ROM, type:
                D:\DD\NT\SETUP -q
              * Follow the directions that appear on the screen

          2 The normal method will prompt the user with instructions and
              wait for the user to answer before continuing with the
              installation.

              For a normal installation of the drivers:
              * Open a Command prompt
              * If installing from a diskette, type:
                A:\NT\SETUP
              * If installing from a CD-ROM, type:
                D:\DD\NT\SETUP
              * Follow the directions that appear on the screen

          If the NT 4 System Management Drivers are being upgraded on a
          system that has Universal Manageability Services (UMS) running,
          then the easiest method to upgrade the driver is to follow the
          steps listed below.

              * Click on the Start Menu, then select Settings, then
                select Control Panel

              * In the Control Panel window, double-click the Devices icon

              * Scroll down to the entry that shows ibmspw and highlight it

              * Click the Startup... button on the right side of the window

              * In the Startup window, select the Disabled radio button and
                then click the OK button

              * Close the Devices and Control Panel windows and reboot the
                machine.

              * After the machine has rebooted, install the System Management
                Drivers using one of the two installation steps described
                above. After the drivers are installed, they will
                automatically be re-enabled.

     For Novell NetWare type one of the following lines in the System Console
          Session:
          LOAD A:\NETWARE\SETUP (if installation is from a diskette)
               or
          LOAD D:\DD\NETWARE\SETUP (if installation is from a CD-ROM)
          Follow the directions that appear on the screen

     For SCO/UnixWare:
          There are three methods you can choose from when installing the
          SCO/UnixWare System Management Drivers.

          NOTE: All of the following commands that are entered in a shell
                prompt are case-sensitive.

          1   Using SCO/UnixWare's package utility:
              * Open a shell prompt
              * Type" scoadmin and press Enter
              * Click Application Installer
              * Click to view the diskette or CD-ROM (for example DISK_A or
                CD-ROM_1)
              * Install the package that gets displayed.

          2   Interactive installation:
              * Open a shell prompt
              * If installing from a diskette, type:
                 pkgadd -d diskette1
              * If installing from CD-ROM, type:
                 pkgadd -d cdrom1
              * Follow the directions that appear on the screen.

          3   Non-interactive installation:
              * Open a shell prompt
              * If installing from a diskette, type:
                pkgadd -d diskette1 -q -p -n uw7advmg
              * If installing from a CD-ROM, type:
                pkgadd -d cdrom1 -q -p -n uw7advmg
              * Follow the directions that appear on the screen.

          There are two methods you can choose from when removing the
          SCO/UnixWare System Management Drivers.

          1 For an interactive removal of the drivers:
              * Open a shell prompt
              * Type: pkgrm uw7advmg

          2 For a non-interactive removal of the drivers:
              * Open a shell prompt
              * Type: pkgrm -n uw7advmg

4.0 Stopping the Netfinity Manager application program
-------------------------------------------------------

     If the Netfinity Manager application program is already running on your

     device drivers. The following examples show how to do this.

     For NT and OS/2:
          * Close any open Netfinity windows
          * Open a Command prompt
          * Type: NETFBASE SHUTDOWN

     For NetWare:
          * Unload the Netfinity Support Program

     For SCO UnixWare:
          * Open a shell prompt
          * Type: netfbase.exe SHUTDOWN
            (NOTE: This is a case-sensitive statement.)
