Friends and fellow OS/2 users:

This is a text file to compound on what has been already said, tried and tested to get Myst running
using OS/2. This might be of particular interest to WARP users, since one of the main 'ingredients'
is *not* a WARP file!

Special thanks to Kevin Walker, who put me (and probably many others!) on the road to getting
Myst to run under OS/2. Thanks! (The following text, minus a line or two, is quoting Kevin
directly:)

I run Myst in a full screen Win-OS2 session.

1. Get your hands on Apple's 'Quick Time v2.0' -- it can be downloaded from CompuServe by
typing "Go QTime" I believe. After you have loaded Myst onto your system, install QT v2.0 and it
will erase any older QTime files it finds. If you already have QTime v2.0 installed when you
install Myst, delete all the files ending in QTC in your Myst directory. This will work alright.

2.  I REM'ed out the CPS.SYS driver from my CONFIG.SYS.
Apparently this driver is incompatible with Win-OS2.

3. When the program locks up at the beginning, with the
revolving Broderbund logo, I jiggle my mouse across the top of
the screen, occasionally clicking it. As ludicrous as it sounds,
this actually works.

 4. My object notebook settings were changed to --

          WIN_RUN_MODE=3.1 Enhanced Compatibility
          WIN_DDE=ON
          WIN_CLIPBOARD=ON
          DOS_FILES=100
          DOS_HIGH=ON
          DPMI_DOS_API=ENABLED
          DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT=128
          EMS_MEMORY_LIMIT=0
          IDLE_SECONDS=5
          IDLE_SENSITIVITY=95
          XMS_MEMORY_LIMIT=6144

          Everything else is default.

5. In the SYSTEM.INI file for Win-OS2 change the parameter to
[This reportedly worked for many other users. But when I
attempted this I lost all video in Myst.] --

           [timer.drv]
          TIMERMax386Res=30
          TIMERMax286Res=30

OK, Kevin, this is where *I* take over! Take note WARP users!! This is particularly important!

Use the 'timer.drv' file that I have included with this text file - this is the key to getting Myst
to run under WARP. The 'timer.drv' file is dated February 1994 and is the 'timer.drv' file that
is included with OS/2 v2.11 (*not* with OS/2 v2.1).

Go into WINOS2, Control Panel and remove the existing timer, then exit WINOS2. At this point, replace
the 'timer.drv' file with the one that I've provided with this file -- then go back into WINOS2, Control
Panel and 'add' the timer driver, opting to use the one that is already on the system (when it asks you).
If it doesn't ask you and wishes a path specified, then tell it the path to where the driver is (I think
it'll probably be in the WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory...depends on where you put it!).

**Please note this disclaimer**
        I did not write the 'timer.drv' file that I am including with this text file, nor did I modify
it in any way. As far as I am concerned, the file is property of IBM (since I got it from their
OS/2v2.11 operating system). I am circulating it with this file as a convenience ONLY -- it took
me hours to finally hunt it down on the Internet and it wasn't worth the effort!! I do not expect
or want re-imbursement for the file. I am doing this only to assist other OS/2 users in getting a game
to finally run under OS/2 (particularly WARP)!

        Finally, if my distributing this file could be deemed illegal (since it isn't mine really) I will cease
and desist immediately (sounds like I've been watching too much of the OJ trial!!), however I hope that it
helps some users out there get Myst up and running!

Enjoy!  Have fun!  OS/2 forever!
